Hunting in Romania
Romania is one of the few countries in
Europe where the habitat and game are unaltered by human civilization. Wolves, bear and lynx inhabit primeval forests; deer and wild boar complete the primitive landscape. In short,
Romania is a place where wild animals roam free like they have for thousands of years.

Unquestionable king of the European forests and the largest carnivore of the area, the brown bear dominates the rural hills and mountains. Bears are widespread in the entire Carpathian chain of Romania and densely populated in many of the hunting areas.
In 1985, Romania exceeded its own world record for the bear fur with a trophy of 687,79 CIC points.
Nowadays the wolf is a protected species in Romania, but, in the areas where there are high densities and also big damages, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Rural Development of Romania may approve the harvesting of the extra livestock.Romania exceeded in 1997 its own world record for the wolf fur trophy with 186,17 CIC points.
The wild cat is a reason of pride for the Romanian hunting due to the challenge set by the world record of wild cat skull, in 1967, with a trophy valuing 21,40 CIC points.
Foxes are found abundantly in Romania, from the alpine meadows to the Black Sea shore. Foxes are regularly sighted during hunts of both large and small game. The skull is a conventional trophy and the fur is an unconventional trophy. The national record for fox skull is 25,30 CIC points (the world record for fox skull is 28,03 CIC points).
In the alpine area, the stag's roaring, which marks the beginning of the mating period, starts around the 1st of September, intensifies until the 25th-28th of September and ends around the 10th-15th of October. In the plain, the roaring starts 10-15 days earlier and in the hills just a few days before its starting in the mountain areas. The national record was harvested in the fall of 2003 in Gurghiu area, being confirmed on the 29th of April 2004 with 264,51 CIC points, while the first 10 trophies are over 240 CIC points.
The wandering of the chamois in the Carpathians starts when the weather becomes colder, usually in the second half of October, and lasts approximately for one month. Cold weather may accelerate the starting of the wandering, while warm weather may delay it. The unbeatable world record of 141,1 CIC points was harvested in 1937 and belongs to Romania, as also 7 of the top 10 world trophies. Starting with 1990, more trophies valuing higher than 120 CIC points were harvested, but the most popular were the ones over 110 CIC points for he-chamois and over 105 for chamois.
Wild boars are spread from the alpine zone to the Black sea shore, being very dense in areas covered with beech, oak or evergreen-oak forests, but also in the plains, Danube's Delta and Danube's meadow, places also known as being ideal for organizing unforgettable hunting parties. Remarkable trophies were recorded in all hunting areas. Usually boars over 150 kg are harvested, but in some cases there were harvested animals weighing 250 kg or more. The top trophy in Romania was homologated with 144,00 CIC points, while the top 10 trophies are over 137,00 CIC points.
The largest bird of the the Tetraonidae family, Capercaillie are living in the spruce, fir-trees forests and also in the mixed coniferous and broadleaf forests, at altitudes over 1000 meters. Getting close to the Capercaillie cock during its mating display is the charm of this hunting
When it comes to wild fowl, Romania's Danube delta region at the Black Sea forms a bountiful paradise of the traditional migratory and game species. Geese, woodcocks, ducks, quail, and many other migratory birds are found there in vast numbers.
For a truly memorable traditional hunting experience, a hunting party in Romania is the unique experience that will make a true hunter's heart race.
